1.1 ROBERT FICK (Robert6, JOHN5, JOHN4, JOHN3, JOHANN DANIEL2, JOHANN HEINRICH1) was born 09 Janauary 1878 in Isle of Man, and died 14 October 1961 in Douglas, Isle of Man, while visiting from Canada. His ashes were rreturned to Canada and buried in Pine Hills Cemetery, Scarborough, Ontario. He married MARY ELINOR CANNELL 02 Oct 1897 in St. George's, Douglas, Isle of Man, daughter of JOHN CANNELL and CHARLOTTE CUBBON. She was born 13 Apr 1880 in Peel, Isle of Man, and died in Toronto, Ontario. Notes for ROBERT FICK: 1901 Census of England - living in Toxeth Park, England. Occupation - Dock Labourer Age, 23. Other family members: Mary E Age 20., Minnie R. Age 1, Philip Cannell, brother-in-law Age.19. Robert emigrated to Canada with his wife & children 20 June, 1913. On the 17th May, 1916 Robert enlisted in the Canadian Army, 48th Battalion CFA. In his Attestation (enlistment) Document he is described as being 5" 8-3/4” tall with fresh complexion, brown eyes and dark brown hair, and living at 419 Meagher Ave. (Later changed to Oak Park Ave.), Toronto. At the time of his enlistment he was employed as a Conductor for the Toronto Street Railway Company and he returned to that job when he was discharged from the army. He remained as a conductor for the TSRC and TTC until he retired. Robert and his brother William were active members of the Manx Society and organizers of the 1927 Manx Homecoming. |
